Jewbilee

“I have been to similar ‘Shabbatonim’ put on by other organizations. The main difference I observed between the Jewbilee and those was that, with those, they had the attitude that we were privileged to be there… what I liked most about Jewbilee is that you really cared about our opinion, it was almost the other way around.”

Facing Global Challenges in Pursuit of a Better World

TCI’s Jewbilee retreat brings together Jewish students, friends, and allies from around the country for a weekend to explore Jewish identity, enhance student leadership and community, and enrich the experience of independent school culture. Teachers are encouraged to attend with their students, and TCI hosts parallel professional development workshops for faculty. The theme of this year is Facing Global Challenges in Pursuit of a Better World. Throughout the weekend, we will hold interactive workshops which will allow students to reflect on their individual and collective roles in pursuing a better world.

At Jewbilee, young people are integral to the planning process. Each year, student leaders work with TCI staff to create a dynamic weekend where they can:

  • Initiate relationships with other students and build community with one another
  • Explore diverse perspectives on Jewish culture, religion and practice
  • Establish connections to Jewish identity that will last beyond the Jewbilee experience;
  • Learn to impact their experience at independent schools by establishing new communities on campus and closer connections to TCI staff and programs.

What can you expect from Jewbilee in 2010?

  • A fun weekend in Boston!
  • An inspiring Shabbat program that will include lots of good food and plenty of down time (for both studying and touring Harvard Square!)
